Fall Fun

Even though I was sick and Nathan had homework, we had a very nice weekend. One of my favorite fall activities is making caramel apples (and eating them!) so that's what we did. They turned out a little lumpy, but that's ok because they are still coated in caramel. The only trouble is the inevitable caramel apple problem of getting your nose and chin all sticky.

Back in September I made these silhouettes of Nathan and me though I am just now getting around to posting them. The photos aren't the best but you get the gist (our room is quite dim and the glass is very reflective). I got the Japanese wave paper at Paper Source and love it! It adds some color to our very beige apartment. They are a pretty great likeness.

The rest of my projects are on hold until I finish packaging and sending out resumes. Nerves have gotten the best of me lately so I have been spending a lot more time with InDesign doing image layouts and perusing paperies for good looking envelopes. I think I have it about squared away...fingers crossed.

Nathan's birthday is coming up next Tuesday, and Melinda and Todd will be here to visit tomorrow. We haven't seen them since June! I'll be sure to take some pictures to share later.

Yummy!!! Those caramel apple treats look delicious! And Nathan looks like a pro - that's something we should make one of these days. It's been raining for two days straight, and I've been running out of ideas! Bring on the sticky faces and hands! :D

And wow, your silhouettes turned out incredibly accurate. I'm so impressed! I can't wait to see them in the context of your apartment. You are so creative! Did you paint them on that Japanese paper, or on something and then transfer it... I've never done anything like that!

Loved this post. :) Have a great weekend with my 'rents - they're so looking forward to it. Wish I could be there too!

they are soo yummy...i might have to make another batch!

thanks about the silhouettes, it was a fun project. historically someone would quickly freehand the silhouette, and i've also seen people trace a silhouette from a shadow cast on a wall. i took the easy way out--we took profile photos and i xeroxed them larger. then i taped it down over a piece of black paper and used an x-acto knife to cut out the silhouette. my mom made one of me when i was little and it still hangs in the laundry room!

Oh, I see! I wondered if you had free-handed them or if it was from photographs. Either way, they are beautiful! And how neat that there is one of you in your parents' house. I would love if I could pay you to do one of Christopher some day (soon, while he has his precious little face)- they are such a touching piece of art to have on the wall!

Callie those silhouettes are so gorgeous. I can't believe it. If the whole 'design' thing doesn't pan out, you've got a career ahead of you in black paper!

And carmel apples; yum! It seems like you have so much more fun than me, which I begrudge you.

I agree as well - the silhouettes very much resemble you both. Glad you're keeping busy and still taking time to enjoy the rich fall tradition that is caramel apples. I haven't had any in awhile - possibly because the sticky face thing is extra messy when you have a beard. Happy soon-to-be-birthday, Nathan! And Cal, I got your mix in the mail today! Thanks so much, I am autumn-rockin it! Take care.

i'm glad everyone likes the silhouettes! i think it does open the door to more paper-cutting ventures. (shelene, i'd love to make one of christopher for you, though i encourage you to give it a try- really fun!)

tyler...you hit the nail on the head again my friend, haha ;) we share the ironies.

I think I will - and I have that x-acto knife you sent me awhile back as a gift! If you can recommend a place to look for paper (is paper source online?), I think I may try it out soon! :D
