The last week's synopsis

We have been here for just over a week now, and it's funny to go over all the things we've done in that short time.  A week can feel like a while when you are kind of aimless and new to everything---not to say I'm totally aimless, I have some goals, things to do, don't worry. ;)

Nathan has been applying to jobs and had an interview with a PC repair company (it went well but they may want someone long term).  We walked all around the neighborhood, increasing our daily steps.  On Tuesday I found my way downtown on the bus to go to a belly dancing class, which was really refreshing.  I think I'll enroll in the upcoming 4-week session to make sure I keep up.  We had Indian food on Wednesday and watched So You Think You Can Dance. Nathan has been a real sport and watched them all with me.  I think I'm rooting for Chelsea and Mark, but it is a close competition.

Thursday evening I went to Belltown to have dinner with Dianna, a SAIC classmate and friend of a friend.  We ate at Wann sushi, one of her favorite spots, and it was great.  Dianna and I have a lot of similar interests so we had lots to discuss, and the sushi was really good.  Alright, I'm going to confess.  Since I decided to move out here I've been rethinking the exclusion of fish from my diet.  I sort of decided it will be a once in a great while food, just because of the location.  So I ordered a salmon roll and a cucumber roll.  mmmm

I found out that Dianna lives at a co-op downtown that I had read about online and was somewhat interested in checking out.  I've been interested in co-op housing for a while and hers operates a little differently than most, offers more personal independence. She gave me a tour through the building, and I took this photo from their rooftop deck.  It's so close to the Sound!  The Olympic sculpture park is just out of view to the right, another trip to make another day.

It seems like a lot of our week was spent searching for a new apartm
ent online, making calls and appointments.  I was surprised at how fast apartments are filled out here.  Luckily, we found an apartment nearby in Kirkland at the right price.  It is a one bedroom, about 616 sf, on the second (top) floor of a building in a larger condo complex.  Nathan will be able to get to school in 10-15 minutes on the bus, and the interstate is close if I need to work in Seattle.  They are repainting and cleaning right now, but we will be moving within the next few weeks. :)

Realizing this is getting longer than I anticipated, I'll try to sum up the last few days.  It's been hot lately, hovering around 90 most of the day, but it cools to 70 in the evening, so it's sufferable.  We handed in our apartment deposit Friday and found a farmers market by the beach where I had to take a photo of these beautiful flowers (Mom, you'd be amazed how the lobelia grows out here).  We bought asparagus, zucchini, cucumber, and the sweetest, largest sugar snap peas I have ever had.

I sauteed the zucchini and snap peas for dinner that night.  Simple, but quite tasty and fresh.  Here it is with some rice on Nathan's cute little dishes.  I think we will have to plan on some nights out to dinner so Nathan can order some meat dishes, poor kid.

I persuaded Nathan on Saturday to visit some garage sales to look for a few things I was missing in the kitchen and who knows what else.  With the fine weather, there have been many. For $8 I picked up: a large glass mixing bowl, a small metal mixing bowl, a pan, six cute drinking glasses, and a large mirror!  I'd say it was a good shopping day.  Last night we went to a party at my dear friend Molly's adorable home in Wallingford.  It was so good to see her and meet her good people.  We'll definitely be making plans for some one-on-one time soon.

I'm glad you decided to sautee the zucchini (that was what I was thinking sounded yummy when Nathan mentioned your farmer's market finds) I remember those cute plates he has now too! I'm so glad you are both doing well... I think you'll love that area, and it's great that you're already meeting up people and going to dancing classes!!! We are hooked on SYTYCD too - Chelsea and Mark are my favorite also, with Twitch and (can't remember his partner) in a close second probably... they're all so good! :) It always makes me think of you when I'm watching that show...
