The Weekly Cute

Ack, you guys...
Papa's post was the only reason I remembered to post the Cute this week. I'm getting bad at this. Nap, anyone?

Sleeping Late

I've been feeling tired lately.

via silencio, no hay banda: via flamingtea

It might be the change in the seasons...it is feeling like Fall now, the slanting light, the crispness to the air, the rainy evenings and mornings. The moon's all outta whack and so am I.* But I still love Fall.

Or it might be that I've been at work a lot. Not full time but for many days in a row at varying hours.

I slept in a little this morning, but I wouldn't mind a little more shut-eye.
I'm trying to hit the vitamins and fruits to fight that sick that follows tired. Now that we're back to school/work schedules, I'm missing Nathan too.

But, absence makes the heart grow fonder? I love to come home and snuggle into our couch, and my heart jumps a little more when I hear Nathan's key in the door.

*I'm reading The Last Unicorn again, and last night I dreamt I was a horse. Dreams are funnier when you're really tired.

Volunteer Park

This past Tuesday morning Vinnie and I drove into Capitol Hill for his appointment at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. The museum resides in the absolutely lovely Volunteer Park, which I had heard about and foolishly not yet visited. I believe it is a popular place, but it was a quiet weekday morning. Besides the beautiful Art Moderne museum, there is a conservatory down the tree lined street, a reservoir, dahlia garden, small koi ponds, and large green spaces. I think it might be exactly what I was hoping for in Seattle.

The Weekly Cute

Sorry, late on the weekly feature again!*
A couple more photos from our Iowa visit....I was able to sneak in a little bonding with our cat, Schnitzel. I expected her to be more standoffish in her way so I surprisingly soaked up some cuddle time with the ol' Schniz.
Boy, I love that kitty.

*Late on the Cute, but for good reason--my friend Vinnie was here visiting! We hadn't seen Vinnie, my college housemate and buddy, since last Thanksgiving so I was happy to drop everything else (like work and blogging) in the meantime.

Toofies

I am sure it was by accident or ulterior motive (perhaps the desire to have a well-dried brush), but I found it very sweet that Nathan left our toofbrushes hugging this morning.

Have I mentioned I like him a bit?

First Day Feast

Being that today was Nathan's first day back to school (and my first free day since we got back) I decided to cook up something new, different and special for dinner. I underestimated the feat it would be to put together this little feast.

What's on the menu?
Shrimp cakes with ginger and cilantro,
from 5 Spices, 50 Dishes

1. chopping up spicy things and sauteeing them til my eyes burn and I'm coughing

2. boiling, peeling, mashing potatoes; thawing, chopping shrimps
3. mixing all of these things together, forming patties, rolling in bread crumbs

4. Refrigerating; make raita (cool yogurt dip)
5. Frying shrimp cakes in oil

6. Success! Eating delicious shrimp cakes

The yet to be seen 7th step?
7. Cleaning dishes. Bah.

A delicious new recipe I won't be making in the near future but definitely sometime in the later future.
A yummy, tiring day for me, and for Nathan
(on top of his first day, he fixed our sink! my handyman)

First and Last

Well, it's finally here.
Today was Nathan's first day of senior year! Woot woot!

Having Returned

Back in the Northwest already, our Iowa trip here and gone too soon. I thought perhaps I dramatized how busy and fast it was, but then N and I sat down and made a list of how we spent our visit. Crazy, running to and fro! It was a lovely time nonetheless, but I will look forward to our next trip being more relaxed. I have been working since we got back, and N has a full weekend then school starting next week. We slipped in a little time yesterday to enjoy fish-n-chips lunch and some outdoor time together. It's beginning to rain here in the evenings again, but the last few days have been perfection. It really feels like the end of summer.

Out for a walk at Juanita Beach--look who showed up!! :)

Birthday Soiree

A big celebration for my Mom's birthday, family in town for the birthday weekend and a lively party at Summerset Winery. The weather prevailed, the band jammed, and the guests were happy. I think Mom was too (right, Mom?)
